Over the course of this unit, we learned many things about sociology, who we are, and lots of collaborative skills. At the beginning of this project we first started learning about sociology. Thru many videos, readings, and teachings we learned about sociology, the agents of socialization, and the harmful effects of the cycle of socialization. This information was all very meaningful and really opened my eyes to the world around me. After we had learned this information we began to write our essays and create our masks. The masks we made were constructed out of plaster of paris, plaster, and modge podge. After we constructed them we then covered them in any way that represented the mask that we put on every day to fit into society and how we have been socialized. We used anything from paint to broken mirrors. Our essays either used the format of a moment in time or an inform and explain. I chose the moment in time and that meant that I wrote a detailed and descriptive retelling of a moment in my life that had a big impact on my socialization or gave an indepth look into my socialization and then I had to explain it. The final part of the project that the whole ninth grade worked together on was our exhibition. Together we created a maze in the school to give people an in depth look at the cycle of socialization and show people the messages that we are being taught as we grow that can be harmful or positive.
