For the ethics and chemistry of food and cooking project, we worked in both chemistry and humanities to create two final projects. On chemistry, we conducted a cooking experiment where we altered a recipe of something of our choice to try and have the desired result. In humanities, we read the book "The Omnivore's Dilemma" and watched the documentary "Fresh" to learn about the industrial and local food systems.
As we worked on two different parts of the project in two different classes, it let me gain knowledge directly on the science of food, and the ethics and where my food was coming from all at once. I really enjoyed the disciplinary project because it really lets me see food from all angles. I really took from this project a sense of awareness and understanding of food. An understanding of both the science of food and how science is a part of everything we eat, and an awareness of everything that I put into my body and the impact it has on the whole world. |
