In this project for spanish 2, we combined learning about traditional spanish recipes with recently learned spanish commands. We did this the form of a video, where we made the recipe along with talking you through it, all in español. For our recipe we choose to make Flan and Mexican Spiced Hot chocolate. Flan is a popular dish mainly in Mexico consisting of milk, eggs, and sugar that becomes sort of a spongy moist dessert. Mexican hot chocolate is similar to normal hot chocolate, except for the fact that is has a couple added spices like cinnamon and has more cocoa in it. I really enjoyed this project as it wrapped up my year in Spanish 2.
Mi Frida Project
Frida Kahlo was a Spanish artist that lived in the early to mid 1900's who was well known all around the globe for her unusual painting style. Over the course of her lifetime Frida painted over 200 paintings that were mostly in the style of surrealism. Throughout this time, Frida endured many hardships including Polio when she was younger, bad lifelong injuries sustained when she was hit by a bus at age 18, and a relationship with Diego Rivera that remained even though they had hard times together. Towards the end of her life she even battled addiction to many drugs. Throughout all of this, she produced amazing paintings that continue to shine and amaze people today. To learn about Frida we read a book as a class and watched a movie about her called Frida. After this we began the Mi Frida project. In this project, we choose a famous person of our choice that we called our "Frida" and wrote a 300 plus word bibliography about them ALL in spanish and created an art piece in the style of a Frida painting that included three items from that character's life. My Frida that I choose was JFK and I choose him because he is an important part of American history. For my art piece I decided to do a collage that combined Frida's thorny necklace piece with some of JFK and his favorite items. My bibliography of him I am most proud of, as it turned out better then I would have expected. If I were to do this project over I think I would have spent more time on the art portion of it as I feel I could Improve it next time around.
Calaveras
Jose Guadalupe Posada was a mexican cartoonist that was most known for his famous Calaveras. Calaveras are a form of cartoon that was very popular in mexico around the time of the day of the dead. Jose used skeletons to make fun of people in high power like Politicians. We practised our spanish by writing using the present tense. My calavera depicts Donald Trump being carried away and thrown in the ocean by a bunch of mexicans. I feel that my calavera was very successful and and I am proud of my effort on this project.
